Over the past decade, Manhattan’s iconic Garment District has faced an unfortunate uptick in both violent and quality-of-life crime. Further exacerbated by COVID, the Garment District Alliance (GDA) knew something had to be done.
The GDA is a non-profit organization that raises awareness for everything the Garment District has to offer. In addition to raising awareness, the GDA focuses on improving conditions for the millions of people who pass through Garment District everyday. Keeping the safety of Garment District’s residents, businesses, and tourists the priority, the Streetwatch program was born.
Streetwatch is a neighborhood video surveillance program that has successfully enhanced the safety across the entirety of the Garment District. Through Streetwatch, CK Technology partnered with the GDA to install a unified surveillance camera solution across the high-traffic Manhattan neighborhood. Using advanced surveillance camera solutions from Axis, the scalability of such initiatives provides a promising future for the safety of our New York City sidewalks.
With new, analytics and sensor-driven features such as gunshot detection through multi-camera triangulation, to smoke sensors that can detect illegal substances, and fine-tuned AI-tracking of suspicious activity, surveillance systems of today go far beyond the capabilities of traditional CCTV.
In collaboration with the Streetwatch team, CK Technology has successfully created peace-of-mind for businesses, building owners, and everyday pedestrians alike. In addition to the GDA, Streetwatch feeds are also commonly used by NYPD in the area to solve crime and by local business owners. As part of our solution, we were able to incorporate multiple existing, disparate systems to each tunnel back to a centralized NVR hub for the neighborhood.
